Is Georgia Libertarian leaning toward Democrat in runoff?

The Senate Guru blog in The Huffington Post gets some very interesting responses from Georgia Libertarian Allen Buckley.

Buckley got 128,000 votes (3.4% of the total) on Nov. 4 as the Libertarian Party candidate for U.S. Senate. Because he kept the two major-party candidates, Democrat Jim Martin and Republican Saxby Chambliss, from getting more than 50% of the vote, those two now face a runoff election on December 2. And the question is: Where will the Libertarian vote go?

Here are Senate Guru’s questions and Buckley’s answers:

Senate Guru: Do you believe that Saxby Chambliss’ position on the Wall Street bailout has been fiscally responsible?

Allen Buckley: Something needed to be done, but I wouldn’t have voted for the bail-out bill. No, I don’t think his position was fiscally responsible.

Senate Guru: Speaking as a Libertarian, which remaining candidate do you think would be more proactive in restoring the civil liberties of Georgians and acting appropriately in response to the Bush Administration’s practice of wiretapping Americans’ phones without warrants?

Allen Buckley: Jim Martin

Note: The Georgia vote may be critical in the Democrats’ quest for a 60-seat filibuster-proof supermajority in the U.S. Senate.

Democrat Jim Martin is in a runoff against Bush Republican Saxby Chambliss for the Senate seat from Georgia. Bush’s Saxby Chambliss voted against spending a few measly dollars to provide health care coverage for Georgia, and Americas needy children. But he supported wasting hundreds of billions of your dollars, and the life BLOOD of Americas finest on an unnecessary war in Iraq.

At a time when 47 million of you have no health insurance coverage, and over 100 million of you with insurance are just one major illness away from complete financial destruction. Bush and Saxby Chambliss voted to make the heart break of bankruptcy relief even harder for all of you to use.

You see, Bush and Saxby Chambliss, and his family don’t have to worry about their health care coverage. They have the finest health care coverage your tax money can buy for them. Courtesy of you. The American Tax payer. In fact, no one but the super rich can afford the health care coverage you the tax payer provide for Saxby Chambliss, and his family for FREE! with your tax dollars.

He supposedly works for you. But he doesn’t think you and your family should have access to the type of taxpayer supported FREE health care that you provide for him, and his loved ones for FREE!. Doesn’t that just make you BURRING MAD!

Vote for JIM MARTIN for US senator from Georgia. Vote for JIM Martin who will be on your side. Vote for JIM MARTIN who will work with President Obama and a majority congress for you. Vote for JIM MARTIN most of all for your-self, your family’s, friends, and loved ones. Vote for JIM MARTIN for a better America, and a better World.

Don’t let Saxby Chambliss make a chump out of you by tricking you into voting against your own best interest. Saxby chambliss is NOT! on your side. He’s not one of you. He is on George Bush’s side. And we all know what a catastrophe the Bush Chambliss administration has been the past 8 years.

Contact all your family and friends and do every thing you can to see to it that JIM MARTIN and GEORGIANS! take that senate seat back for Georgia, and America. No matter where you live in America. This is important to you. President Obama will need all the help, and power you can give him to try and fix this catastrophic mess that the Corrupt Bush Chambliss administration has created.

As I said before you will have to vote in overwhelming numbers to overcome the Bush Chambliss “Let Them Eat Cake” vote fraud machine. Vote early if you can. Then help everyone you can get to the polls and vote for JIM MARTIN. You and your loved ones don’t have to be Saxby Chambliss’s victims anymore.

I know you will get it done. Just like you did for President Obama.

    God bless all of you

  3. Roscoe Says:

Our only concern as libertarians should be “How does a filibuster proof Senate affect liberty as long as both parties propose legislation that is destructive of those liberties?” Many might conclude that, however flawed Chambliss is, he is needed to prevent filibusters. If the Georgia LP wants to play at politics, then play the game. Approach both candidates and see what advantages the Georgia LP can wring out of either party. An Austrian economist to be appointed to Obama’s Council of Economic Advisors? A pledge that where states are controlled by Republican legislators, all harassing ballot access laws against third parties will be mitigated? Alan to be appointed to some prestigious “blue ribbon” committee in Georgia from which he can eventually launch a successful state legislative race?
If Georgia LP has them by the gonads, then squeeze!

  4. Jake Says:

“Many might conclude that, however flawed Chambliss is, he is needed to prevent filibusters.”

I”m having trouble understanding that sentence. To prevent filibusters, you would want a filibuster proof majority of 60 seats for one party. The democrats are close to that, if your goal is prevention of filibusters you would support the Democrat.

If your goal is to preserve the threat of filibuster then you don’t want the democrats to have a 60 seat super majority. In that case you would support the republican Chamblis.

I loved it when yahoo news reported the republicans had been struck with a ‘sudden case of fiscal conservatism’ on a recent story, about the auto bailout.

It’s true, major parties don’t really believe in anything whatsoever…they align themselves with certain ideas, as necessary to ride waves of dissatisfaction back into office. Every time you vote out a republican or vote out a democrat…by placing a democrat or republican back in their place….well you simply are rewarding the out party for playing their out party games.

Once they are back in power, they will do whatever the heck they want.

I care not one wit whether Chamblis or Martin wins in Ga.

Whether its time to reward the ‘out’ party for their insincere opposition to the ‘in’ party, or whether you keep the ‘in’ party around…really makes no difference, they will both govern as populists once they get elected, and abandon any pre-election campaign promises, and none of them operate from any particular philosophy.

If he could ring out better ballot access laws, great. Go for it.

  5. Roscoe Says:

Of course, the sentence should read “he is needed to preserve filibusters.”

The trouble with saying that filibusters don’t matter is that ensuing legislation is extremely hard to roll back. Look at all the entrenched New Deal and Great Society that won’b ever be repealed or favorably modified short of a libertarian zeitgest. So, I’d swallow hard and vote for Chambliss, after the LP Georgia milks the maximum “bribe” out of the GOP.

  6. Jeffrey Quick Says:

Does anybody really care who Buckley supports, given that he isn’t Ron Paul, who passed his mighty vote totals on to Chuck Baldwin ? Seriously, left libertarians will vote Martin, right libertarians will vote Chambliss, and it’ll be what it is.

    Real I.D.

We believe that the Real I.D. act of 2005 violates the sovereignty of the states by imposing mandatory national identification. We believe that a National I.D. violates the Fourth Amendment by infringing on Americans’ right to privacy, and Americans’ property rights. We believe State Legislatures should reject any connection with the Real I.D. Act. State Legislatures should reject this invasion of state sovereignty by the Department of Homeland Security, an unelected executive department. We believe individual states have adequate power to identify and credential their own citizens.

    KC Smartport / NAFTA Superhighway

The citizens of Kansas City and Western Missouri have not been provided information about the KC Smartport plans and the North American Super Corridor Coalition (NASCO: also known as NAFTA Superhighway), nor have our representatives been a part of the process. We believe that the taking of land for the advantage of US and foreign corporations is a direct attack on our liberties and sovereignty. We believe that this large highway, rail and pipeline system will not only be a scar on our land in appearance and pollution, but will increase crime, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration to our city. All land, currently leased to Mexico and considered Mexican soil in Missouri, should immediately be returned to the people. All plans for the NASCO Superhighway, and the plans to make Kansas City the entrance into the United States for freight, need to be produced for the public and be open to discussion and debate.

    U.S. War Policy

Only Congress has the Constitutional legal power to declare war. We agree with our first President, George Washington, that our foreign policy should seek peaceful commerce with all nations and entangling alliances with none. As such, we advocate bringing home the men and women serving in the Afghan and Iraqi conflicts as rapidly as safely possible. The presence of troops in 120 Countries around the globe is unsustainable and should be reevaluated in light of realistic security concerns. We also call upon our fellow citizens to join us in helping our veterans by strongly encouraging State Representatives to provide much needed medical help and assistance. If anyone deserves taxpayer money and government assistance, it is our veterans who come home to their families and friends bearing the scars and injuries of world conflict. We believe that attention must be brought to the growing numbers of homeless veterans, and that it is our duty as citizens to pay attention to their needs. We believe that unauthorized and unjust occupation of and use of force in foreign nations is one of the causes of terrorism and we must educate the public to this foreign policy issue.

..”Rahm Emanuel, nicknamed “Rahmbo,” is a pro- Israel Orthodox Jew who was educated in a Talmudic yeshiva and served as a volunteer in the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). He is a dual citizen of Israel, which his office refused to deny when AFP inquired. Israel is the only nation where Americans can apply for and obtain citizenship without automatically renouncing U.S. citizenship.

Some Americans are unilaterally proclaimed citizens of other countries, as when an American GI marries a French girl and becomes an automatic citizen of France. But if the GI applied for and obtained French citizenship, he would lose his American citizenship. It is impossible to be a 100 percent loyal American and have an ounce of loyalty to another country; there is no #101 percent and the interests of Israel and the United States are not always synonymous.

Those familiar with the 9-11 terrorist attacks know that the IDF was instrumental in training the Dancing Israelis who—from a rooftop in Weehawken, N. J.—had the foreknowledge to videotape both WTC towers being struck by kamikaze jetliners, then celebrate afterward.

Mentored by members of Chicago’s corrupt party machine like convicted Congressman Dan Rostenkowski, Emanuel gravitated to Washington in 1991 after becoming Bill Clinton’s campaign finance committee director. His star rose even higher when he served as one of the primary NAFTA architects and pushed strict anti-gun legislation. After leaving his post as a policy aide for the Clintons, he used his influence as an investment banker to rake in millions during the late 1990s. With this money, Emanuel won a congressional seat in 2002, became the fourth ranking House Democrat by 2006, and is now the most powerful member of Obama’s executive office team.

    Family History of Violence

What truly makes Emanuel dangerous is that his Israeli-born father Benjamin was an integral member of the Zionist terror group known as Irgun during the 1940s. Along with another notorious terror outfit—the Stern Gang—Irgun bombed Jerusalem’s King David Hotel in 1946 where 96 people were killed; while also instigating the 1948 Deir Yassin Massacre.

Rahm Emanuel is the son of a terrorist who directly plotted the assassination of Count Bernadotte, a Swedish diplomat and United Nations envoy who tried to broker peace in Palestine. But Irgun didn’t seek treaties. It instead sought racial cleansing and genocide. According to Elisabeth Bumiller in The New York Times, Benjamin Emanuel passed secret codes to Shin Bet bomber and future Prime Minister Menachem Begin. These very same Jewish terrorists eventually became the recognized Israeli government in 1948, as well as predecessors to Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud Party.

I am still getting begging emails from the Barr campaign. They want us to pay off campaign debts of $50k. If they had spent the money better, e.g. fewer limos and highly paid consultants, I would have looked upon the request more kindly. As it is, Barr should pay the costs of out his deep pockets that have often been filled with taxpayers’ cash.
