Kevin Barrett to Announce Run for Congress at Ron Kind Townhall Monday

From Barrett for Congress:

Two years ago, the politicians wanted Kevin Barrett fired from his teaching job. Now Barrett is turning the tables. Barrett is calling on the voters to fire the politicians, starting with his own 3rd District Representative, Ron Kind.

“The Democrats were elected in 2006 to end the war,” Barrett explains. “They failed. Ron Kind and the rest of them keep voting to throw our money into that five trillion dollar black hole in Iraq. That’s why our economy is tanking and gas prices are through the roof. It’s time to give the Democrats and the Republicans their walking papers. It’s time to fire them all.” Barrett will be running as a Libertarian and urging voters to throw all Republicans and Democrats out of office. He will be handing out copies of the new DVD Washington, You’re Fired while he campaigns.

Barrett said he was inspired to run for Congress by three people: Jesse Ventura, the maverick independent who beat the Democrats and Republicans to become Governor of Minnesota; Ron Paul, the Republican presidential candidate and defender of freedom; and above all Ed Thompson, the mayor of Tomah. “If Ed were running against me, I’d definitely vote for Ed,” Barrett admits.

Alongside “end the 9/11 wars, save five trillion dollars,” Barrett is running on a “take back our freedom, save the Constitution” platform. He points out that the Bush Administration has shredded the Bill of Rights and even revoked habeas corpus, the basis of freedom in Western law dating back to the Magna Carta. But he also argues that the destruction of Constitutional rule has been going on for many decades, with the creation of the private Federal Reserve money cartel, the establishment of the income tax, and the founding of the National Security State in 1947 being the three biggest landmarks in the gradual destruction of the Constitution.

Along with his call to Investigate 9/11, Barrett’s platform also includes such planks as Deregulate Small Business, End the War on Drugs, Bust Up Monopoly Media, End Aid to Israel, and Return to the Foreign Policy Principles of George Washington.

Barrett will announce his challenge to Congressman Ron Kind this Monday, May 12 at 1:45 pm, shortly before Ron Kind’s Monroe County Listening Session in County Board Room, 112 South Court Street, Sparta, WI, 2:00-3:00 pm. After making the announcement, Barrett plans to participate in Kind’s listening session by asking the Congressman some pointed questions.

    I heard Barrett talk at the WI LP convention. He gave a great speech.

    “It’s time to be cruel to Ron Kind”

  2. Archimedes Says:

    Kick some ass Kevin! Oh, boy, the Libertarian party is really gettin’ good!! Goodbye Greens and republicans!

  3. G.E. Says:

    Is he running as a Libertarian?

  4. paulie Says:

    As far as I know.

  5. Rolf Lindgren Says:

    Yes, he’s a Libertarian.

    I am his official Campaign Advisor.

    His website is barrettforcongress.us

  6. G.E. Says:

    Thanks.

    A TPW contributor with the ability to do so should update this article and include the link to the guy’s site.

  7. G.E. Says:

    Says Mr. Barrett: “I’m all in favor of Social Security. I think it is one of the rare government programs that has raised our quality of life… Did you know that Bill Gates earns millions of dollars a year, but doesn’t pay a penny of Social Security tax on almost all of his earnings? I think Bill Gates should pay Social Security taxes like everybody else. If he did, maybe the rest of us wouldn’t have to pay so much.”

    If he hasn’t been nominated yet, he shouldn’t be.

    Issue #19: Enforce Anti-Trust Laws

    “The problem with the free market is that it destroys itself. How? The winners get too big and collude to prevent competition. The way to keep a free market economy free is by enforcing antitrust laws.”

    He then goes on to celebrate Theodore Roosevelt’s “trust busting.”

    This guy should have been fired from teaching, he’s a fucking statist idiot.

    GE says;

    “This guy should have been fired from teaching, he’s a fucking statist idiot.”

    Rolf says;

    He is not a fucking statist idiot.

    However, he is not a 100% pure Libertarian either, but he is 100% Libertarian on civil liberties, war on drugs, and foreign policy, which will be the focus of his campaign.

  10. G.E. Says:

    Someone who wants to have private accounts isn’t “100% libertarian.” Someone who thinks Social Security is great and that Bill Gates should be doing more to subsidize the program is an outright STATIST.

    Someone who thinks “trust busting” is appropriate or serves the interests of consumers or laborers is a moron.

    This guy thinks 9/11 was an inside job, and yet he wants the same government who (in his mind and in the minds of lots of other actual libertarians) perpetrated it to administer our retirement programs, centrally plan the economy through massive taxation of the rich (thus destroying wealth and jobs), and declare and bust “trusts.”

    Put him in the Robert Milnes wing of the LP.

  11. Sean Scallon Says:

    Good, we’ll have an acutal choice in western Wisconsin (I live in Kind’s district) rather than an echo. Although I must admit I appreciate Kind’s efforts to reform our country’s rotten agricultural subsidy system.

  12. Lester Hunt Says:

    Of course, I agree with what G. E. says above too.

  13. Lester Hunt Says:

    As a UW faculty member, I publicly spoke out against firing Barrett, but I do regard him as a crank. The LP cannot without disgrace be associated with him. If they do run him, my wife and I will both most likely quit the party (and I first joined in 1976).

    I respect what Kevin Barrett has done in regaurds to 9/11 Truth, the wars in Afganistan and Iraq, and civil liberties, but GE is correct to point out that this guy is not a real libertarian. I don’t think that he’s as bad as Robert Milnes though.

  15. Catholic Trotskyist Says:

    Put him in the “Catholic Trotskyist” wing of the Libertarian Party.

    Is there a Republican running in this district? If not, I will endorse him, as the liberal socialists win no matter who wins.

  16. beer cans for ruwart Says:

    sorry all, a bit off topic. but i feel i need to let everyone know something. i’ve been picking aluminum cans out of peoples trash for three weeks just so i can donate the money i earn to mary’s campaign, god bless you mary, and god bless kiddie porn.

  17. Rolf Lindgren Says:

    Lester;

    I’m sorry you’re thinking of dropping out. I’ve been a Libertarian since 1990, and am working with Kevin to try to make his platform more Libertarian.

    He also does not live in your district, he’s running in the third district, not the second.

  18. Eric Dondero Says:

    The “War” as Bennett calls end ended in 2004 when two GIs pulled over a dusty rug and out popped Saddam Hussein, scraggly and waving a pistol in the air. The very moment he was captured is the very moment the War ended.

    Now if Bennett wants to attack American humanitarian efforts to assist the Iraqi people to help them establish a peaceful Democracy that’s one thing. But saying the Democrats need to “end the War” just displays how ignorant he is.

    Hey Bennett, WE CAUGHT SADDAM HUSSEIN WAY BACK IN 2004. Unless you were in a coma all that time, you don’t get a pass.
