MyRide rides with Frank McEnulty

MyRide has a unique way of interviewing presidential candidates. Here’s what looks like the first of a series:

MyRide: Tell us about your current car situation, what you’re driving, etc.

FM: I’m currently driving a 2005 Nissan Xterra Off Road edition because I just like the way it looks and I do a lot of outdoor activities. When I bought it I believe I got the last one with a manual transmission in California. We also have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan - probably the best car ever designed for the purpose of getting your family around town. My 16 year old has a 1998 Nissan Sentra. As you can tell, we maintain our vehicles well and drive them until the wheels fall off.

I don’t see how your son driving a 10-year old car constitutes owning well-maintained vehicles that you keep until the wheels fall off. The newest vehicle at our house is the ‘97 Neon I bought new in September ‘97. My wife drives a ‘92 Acclaim. Both with over 100K. Now if he was driving a ‘76 Volare or something like that I’d allow him to make such a claim, but when all your vehicles are less than 10 years old and your daily driver is only 3 years old that hardly means you keep a vehicle a long time. Many new cars are now coming with 10 year warranties.

Boy, people love to nitpick. Wife’s car is approaching 200,000 miles. Daughter’s car is well over 100,000 and my 3 year old car has over 60,000 miles on it.
