New LibertarianLists Survey Initiated

LibertarianLists has just launched a new online survey designed to help gauge which presidential candidates the libertarian community and Libertarian Party will be supporting in 2008. There is a special section designed to help better understand the thoughts and intentions of Ron Paul supporters.

While the survey is primarily geared for a libertarian audience, there are a variety of issue and candidate questions which pertain to major party, Green Party, Libertarian Party, Constitution Party and independent supporters. Anyone is eligible to participate.

In addition to the presidential preference questions, the survey requests additional information from people who are likely to be delegates at two of the national political conventions. It includes name recognition and favorability ratings for these 30 announced or possible presidential hopefuls: John McCain, Jim Burns, Hillary Clinton, John Finan, Barack Obama, Barry Hess, Bob Barr, Dave Hollist, Mike Gravel, Cynthia McKinney, Daniel Imperato, Mike Huckabee, Sam Nunn, Ron Paul, Michael Jingozian, Mary Ruwart, Chuck Baldwin, Bob Jackson, Alan Keyes, Steve Kubby, Alden Link, Don Grundman, Robert Milnes, Bob Smith, Jesse Johnson, George Phillies, Kent Mesplay, Wayne Allyn Root, Christine Smith, Kat Swift and Daniel Williams.

It asks a few Libertarian Party specific questions only to self-identified LP members, such as who respondents attending the Libertarian National Convention will support in the Chair and Vice Chair races. In order to keep the survey as short as possible for the general audience, questions like “Bill Redpath or Ernest Hancock” aren’t asked of people who aren’t identified as probable convention delegates.

In addition to standard issue questions on topics ranging from Iraq to immigration to abortion, we’ve also included a carefully structured question series (before the comment section is flooded with 9/11 theory debate, it should be explained that everyone doesn’t get the same exact questions—it all depends on how one answered previous questions) dealing with what people believe of the official version of what happened on 9/11.

Again, you don’t have to be a libertarian or a Libertarian to participate—and there are some very specific questions geared specifically for Ron Paul supporters.

The baseline data will be published in a bit more than a week on this site. Some crosstab information will be available to the media and all crosstab data may be purchased once this survey has been completed.

Can we get Wayne Root to come back on here or can we schedule a time where we can submit questions and he can answer them in real time? It seems like many people have questions about his ethics and boiler room business.

I think the survey showed bias, based upon the order in which candidates, websites, etc were listed. You should have just put them in alphabetical order. I also noticed that you put TPW as the very first choice on libertarian websites, when it’s not even technically a libertarian website (but is owned by the guy doing the survey). No bias there, LOL.

  3. Stephen Gordon Says:

    ELM,

They were all randomized—which is less biased than alpha order. You just must have gotten the lucky ordering. :)

  4. Jason Gatties Says:

I voted for ELM as having the best Libertarian blog. My “write in” vote better count!

  5. John-Ross Swanstone Cromer Says:

    Go Ron Paul!
