Ballot access in Illinois

The following is from Randall Stufflebeam, chairman of the Constitution Party of Illinois:

Ballot Access for the Constitution Party of Illinois is about to be within our grasp. Last year the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Illinois ballot access requirements for independent candidates wanting to run for the General Assembly unconstitutional. (See Illinois election law ruled unconstitutional below for more information. )

There is an important and exciting Bill that is now before the Illinois Senate that should have already seen its third reading. Illinois SB0733 (Senate Bill 733) if passed, will amend the Illinois Election Code to make the required number of petition signatures for Independent & New Party candidates to gain ballot access for all elected offices the same as that for the established parties (i.e. Republicans, Democrats and the recently established Green Party).

Currently, the number of signatures required by Independent and New Party candidates for Constitutional Offices is 25,000. The amended code would reduce that required number to 5,000. (See Bill Status of SB0733 below for more information. )

It is vitally important that this bill gets passed as we move into the Presidential Election and have to get the required number of signatures to get the Constitution Party Presidential Candidate on the Illinois Ballot.

Senator Michael W. Frerichs (D) filed the bill with the Secretary of the State on February 8. Since then three more co-sponsors have been added to the bill—Sen. William R. Haine (D); Sen. Gary G. Dahl®; and Republican Leader, Senator Frank C. Watson®. Please call or contact these Senators, thanking them for sponsoring this VERY IMPORTANT bill. (See Sponsoring Senators’ Information Below for more information. )

For those of you living in Illinois, please contact your local Senator and encourage them to vote for SB 733. (Click the following link for a list of Senators: )

We are expecting a very exciting year as we organize the Constitution Party of Illinois and prepared to gain ballot access for our Presidential Candidate in 2008. Please join us as we work to restore the Constitutional Boundaries that our founding fathers laid for this great country and the state of Illinois.

Illinois election law ruled unconstitutional: Lee V. Keith, 2006

On September 18th, 2006 the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Illinois ballot access requirements for independent candidates wanting to run for the General Assembly unconstitutional. Specifically, the 7th Circuit ruled that the 10% signature requirement, the deadline of December the year before the election, and the rule that independent petition signers cannot vote in the primary were too severe of a burden of independent candidates and violated the 1st and 14th Amendments of the United States Constitution.

If you’d like to have more information about the Lee V. Keith 2006 decision, Jeff Trigg, who filed to run for Governor of Illinois in the 2006 Primaries as an Independent has a link to the Oral Arguments Audio file and a link to the briefs that are in Adobe Reader format on the following webpage.

Now we need to do the same in Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, North Carolina and elsewhere.

  2. Doctor Paul Wayne Snyder, PhD Says:

And Citizens For A Better Veterans Home looks forward to the time where the Defacto Anti Abortion Party is actually the Real Life Constitution Party with a real life Abused Veterans Committee. [The current fakey committee has six ‘talking points’ and not one has to do with military or veterans!]

  3. Cody Quirk Says:

    Don’t be so snotty Snyder.

  4. globalist_elitist Says:

Hey, I liked that guy, Randall Stufflebeam. I made some really rude and disgusting comment against him, and he thought it was hilarious. He has a good sense of humor.

  5. matt Says:

    may it spread!

  6. Trent Hill Says:

Randal Stufflebeam doesn’t let things get him down easily.

Snyder, you should contact the National Office with your complaints.
There phone is down right now, so it’ll have to wait a few days.

  7. matt Says:

With a name like Stufflebeam, you have to be thick skinned, I guess.

What was he called on the playground, I wonder?

Who cares? If he can bust his tail on the campaign trail and take a joke to boot, he’s a pretty cool cat.

  8. globalist_elitist Says:

To clarify, the comment was about conservatives in general, not him personally. It wasn’t really an insult either - but it was very lewd. I don’t remember the details. But he responded and acknowledge the humorousness of my post. This shows he has the intellect to be president.

  9. Trent Hill Says:

Holy crap GE, you have very low credentials for President.
While I like Randy, I wouldnt suggest him for President or even suggest he has the intellect required. Hell, I dont think the CURRENT president has the intillect required.
To me it takes much more, an in-depth knowledge of world history, economics, and governance.

  10. Eric Cartman Donfascist Says:

How dare you talk like that about our Commander in Chief in a time of war?

There ought to be a law.

And I say that as a mainstream libertarian.

  11. globalist_elitist Says:

Not to disparage Randy, but I was saying “because he found my joke funny, he has the intellect to be president.” Clearly, I wasn’t being serious.

  12. Randall C. Stufflebeam Says:

    Thank you for the comments.

Incidentally, what they called me on the play ground was nothing compared to what I was called in Marine Corps Boot Camp, with maggot being one of the kindest. ;-) I believe if you can’t take the heat, you should not be in the kitchen.

Just one comment on the intellectual issues… Politics is NOT rocket science. All it takes is someone with honesty, a little common sense and the guts to do what’s right AND TO FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION.

Dr. Snyder, I absolutely agree with Trent Hill, please contact the Chairman of the Veteran’s Coalition, BGen. (Ret.) Charles Jones and let him know your comments, complaints, suggestions, etc.. I know that he would welcome the comments, especially coming from the “Citizens For A Better Veterans Home.” He could best explain why he came to the Constitution Party after he and several other Veterans were considering creating their own “Military Veterans’ Party.” His email address is: [email protected] If for some reason you don’t get a response, let me know and I will make sure that your issues are addressed.

My contact information is: [email protected] and my Run Randy Run Committee Headquarters phone number is 618-355-0737.
